Won't your vehicle start, or is the battery showing signs of failure? At Málaga Baterías we specialise in starter batteries for cars, vans, motorcycles and trucks, and we are an Official Varta Distributor. We run a free load test with Midtronics equipment, tell you the exact reference and, if it needs replacing, fit it in the shop in about 15 minutes and without an appointment. Find us at C/ La Orotava, 100 (Málaga).

What a starter battery is

The starter battery supplies the burst of current the starter motor needs to crank the engine, and keeps the electronics running when the engine is off. It is one of the most common replacement parts: with Málaga's heat and daily use, service life is usually around 4-6 years. We work with well-known brands (Varta, Exide, Tudor) and hold real stock.

For every type of vehicle

We stock starter batteries for practically any vehicle:

  • Car: petrol and diesel; see also our car batteries.
  • Van: higher capacity for intensive use and accessories.
  • Motorcycle: compact conventional and gel formats; see our motorcycle batteries.
  • Truck: high cranking current for large engines; see our truck batteries.

If your car has a Start-Stop system, it needs a specific AGM or EFB battery: check our Start-Stop batteries.

CCA, capacity and what they mean

When choosing a starter battery there are two key figures:

  • Capacity (Ah): the energy it stores; it sets how much electronics it can sustain with the engine off.
  • Cranking current (CCA / EN, in amps): the power to start in the cold. It must equal or exceed what the vehicle maker requires.

Fitting a battery with fewer amps than your car demands causes hard starts, especially in the cold or after several days parked.

Polarity and size: why they matter

Besides Ah and CCA, the battery must match in size (length, width, height) to fit its tray, in terminal type and, above all, in polarity (position of the + and - terminals). The wrong polarity leaves the cables too short or badly placed and is dangerous. That is why it is best that we confirm the reference from your plate or from the battery you currently have.

How to choose and service in Málaga

Fastest way: send us your plate on WhatsApp or come to C/ La Orotava, 100. We test your battery for free, confirm the correct reference (Ah, CCA, size and polarity) and give you a fixed quote before fitting. No appointment and in about 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions about starter batteries

What do a battery's CCA mean?

CCA (or EN amps) measure cold cranking current: the power the battery delivers to start the engine at low temperature. You should fit a battery with a value equal to or above the one your vehicle maker specifies; with less, it will struggle to start.

How do I know which battery my car needs?

From your plate or the current battery data we identify the correct reference: capacity (Ah), cranking current (CCA), size and polarity. Send us your plate on WhatsApp or drop by the shop and we confirm it for free.

Can I fit a battery with more amps?

Yes, a battery with more CCA than the maker's minimum is valid and starts with no problem, as long as size, terminal and polarity match. What you must not do is go below the amps your vehicle requires.

How long does the change take and do I need an appointment?

The in-shop change usually takes about 15 minutes and no appointment is needed. First we run a free load test with Midtronics to confirm whether the battery is really the problem.
