Stationary batteries in Málaga
Stationary batteries are installed in a fixed location and store energy to have it ready when the grid fails or when there is no sun: off-grid solar, UPS systems, telecoms, alarms and emergency backup. At Málaga Baterías, an Official Varta Distributor, we size the battery bank for your installation and supply it with an invoice, no appointment, with a free battery check. C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga.
What is a stationary battery
A stationary battery is designed to stay installed in a fixed spot and work in float mode: it is kept charged and only delivers energy when the system needs it. Unlike a traction battery, cycled daily, or a starter battery, which gives current peaks, the stationary battery prioritises reliability and long standby life. Its plates and chemistry are optimised for years of service with occasional but critical discharges, such as a power cut or the night in an off-grid solar system.
Main applications
- Off-grid solar: store photovoltaic energy to use at night. Related to our solar application batteries.
- UPS: backup for servers, computers, tills and equipment that cannot be switched off abruptly.
- Telecoms: repeaters, antennas and network equipment requiring uninterrupted supply.
- Alarms, access control and home automation: silent 24/7 backup.
- Emergency backup in homes, shops and small industry.
Technologies: monobloc, AGM, GEL and lithium
- Monobloc lead-acid: economical and proven, a good choice for UPS and simple installations.
- AGM: sealed, maintenance-free and gas-free, ideal for indoor and equipment cabinets.
- GEL: maximum tolerance to deep discharges and cycling, widely used in off-grid solar.
- LiFePO4 lithium: long life, high efficiency and less space; the premium choice for backup and self-consumption. See our lithium batteries in Málaga.
For large banks we also advise on deep-cycle OPzS/OPzV solutions.
Service life and maintenance
The life of a stationary battery depends above all on temperature and float voltage: Málaga's heat shortens lead's life, so install them in a ventilated place with the charger correctly set. A properly sized bank kept in float can last many years. AGM/GEL and lithium versions need no water topping up; open monobloc types do require level checks. These batteries share their philosophy with deep-cycle cyclic batteries, though their use is fixed and for backup.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a stationary and a deep-cycle battery?
A stationary battery works fixed in float and delivers energy only when the grid fails or the sun is absent; it prioritises standby reliability. A deep-cycle battery is cycled daily. Many technologies (AGM, GEL, lithium) serve both uses.
Which technology is best for a UPS or backup?
For a simple UPS, monobloc lead or maintenance-free AGM. For off-grid solar, GEL or lithium for their cycling tolerance. LiFePO4 lithium is the premium option for life and efficiency.
How many years does a stationary battery last?
It depends on temperature and float voltage. In Málaga's warm climate they should be installed ventilated with the charger well set; a well-sized, maintained bank lasts many years.
Do you issue invoices and help size the bank?
Yes. We issue VAT invoices and help you calculate capacity and voltage (12, 24 or 48 V) based on the power and autonomy you need.
